Roy's Picks for Chinese New Year

As we welcome 2023 and the upcoming Chinese New Year, you will want to prepare some special bottles for all your different celebrations. When I ask our customers what they are looking for the answer is always “something impressive”! So, I have selected not only big brands but wines with excellent terroir and a great background that are beautiful to drink while at the same time not spending a fortune! These are all great food wines and will pair really well with your Chinese feasts in the coming weeks!
The Champagne world has been dominated by Growers and Boutique Houses over the past few years. I’ve picked two special names, Larmandier Bernier VV de Levant 2012 which enjoys the purity provided by an average of over 50-year-old vines. Next is Henri Giraud, a house with a history dating back to 1625. The Fut du Chene has remarkable complexity and richness.
I’ve included two white Burgundies which are drinking so well right now. A younger 2018 from Bernard Moreau and a perfectly aged 2007 Puligny from Domaine de Montille. For a different white try the Condrieu from Domaine Jamet – it’s packed with white flowers, tropical and nutty notes. You’ll wish you had cases of this wine!
On to the reds where I have picked a juicy Grenache from Comando G in Castillo y Leon Spain, a rich and powerful pinot from Marcassin in Sonoma Coast, and lastly a really great Chambolle Musigny from Philippe Jouan.
Please see more tasting notes and ratings on the wines below.
Cheers and we look forward to hearing from you!
