Jay's Picks

Today’s offer is a selection of wine that I have been enjoying over the past few months. I obviously taste a lot of wine and have so many different occasions to open and share bottles so they range from the affordable and super sexy 2019 Mee Godard Morgon (You must try this wine!) to the more serious 2011 Denis Bachelet Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru. I am always trying to find wines that overdeliver, and today’s selection does just that. I know you will not be disappointed trying any of these fine bottles so go out on a limb and explore some of the regions we are really digging these days.

From one of the best names in the Loire, this is simply delicious Chenin Blanc.  Crisp minerality you would expect to find from Guiberteau but a little more creamy palate as it opens up.  A wonderful wine that must be in your cellar.  I fear that this producer is going to become very sought after as the wine world catches on…

Not the most powerful Pinot but very elegant with a lot of red fruit Chambolle-like perfume on the nose and palate.  It’s in a sweet spot right now and the right time to drink it.  It’s a great food wine and just a nicely aged Burg in the right place.

50% Syrah and 50% Grenache on this nicely aged wine from a Domaine that is increasingly on our radar.  I love these wines as a Chateauneuf alternative when I am seeking out a bigger and bolder wine from France.  You get a lot brambly Mediterranean fruit.  This wine benefits from an hour in the decanter.

You can’t go wrong with a Chave when you want to impress with something a little different. This is a wine I will be serving at a dinner next week and I like what Stephen Tanzer has to say… “Deep red-ruby. Roasted aromas of animal fur, blackcurrant, smoke and pepper. Supple, peppery and very concentrated, with lovely sweetness and pliant texture in the middle palate. Has a compellingly sapid quality. Finishes very long and sweet, with thoroughly ripe tannins. Absolutely delicious Hermitage, and showing no signs of shutting down in the bottle.
