Domaine Henri Boillot

This is currently one of the hottest names in Burgundy right now, holding a whopping 19 hectares around Puligny and Meursault, including one monopole "Clos de la Mouchere", a 79 year old vineyard situated within Les Perrieres. Among all the great wines Boillot produces, this has to be our pick of the bunch value wise, and we would have to agree when Allen Meadows calls the 2016 "a gem of a Puligny 1er and in 2016 is a lovely blend of power and finesse. In sum, this is a knockout". 96 points for $950 or about 1/9th the price of the Montrachet.

Since Henri took over in 2000, the wines have gone from strength to strength, with The Wine Advocate praising their ability to draw out the terroir of the vines, stating that "in every case, the Boillot wines served as excellent representatives of the fundamental character one has come to expect from these vineyards". Their wines are known for their excellent purity, sustainable management of the vines, avoiding chemicals, low yields and late picked fruit for optimum ripeness. Whole bunch pressed, Aged in larger 350L barrels, rather than the standard 228L as well as avoiding battonage, it allows for much better freshness in their wines. Today he is joined by his son Guillaume, who has been vinifying the reds since 2012, whilst Henri continues to focus on his whites.
