Bourgogne: Gateway to Burgundy

This collection is a selection of some of our favourite Bourgogne reds and whites with a juicy 10% off the regular price.  We are big fans of the underrated Bourgogne wines, especially those from some of the more recent vintages which have benefitted from particularly warm and sunny growing seasons.  While the “Bourgogne” appellation is at the bottom of the ranking they are by no means poor quality wines in the right hands.  They are the wines that most consumers will try first, often at restaurants around Burgundy and the rest of France.  One winemaker once told me that they put more effort into making their Bourgogne than they do their Grand Cru because it’s their signature wine and the one that most people will get a chance to taste.  The quality for most respected winemakers has improved dramatically over the years and these wines should not be overlooked.

As the respected German Wine Guide, Falstaff Magazine, wrote about the exceptional 2019 Claude Dugat Bourgogne Rouge (94 points) it’s “an entry into the world of Chambertin rich in finesse and has aging potential.”  This couldn’t be more true!  I have tasted Bourgogne from the 80’s and 90’s and been completely blown away.  Not only can these wines be appreciated younger but they do have the ability to age.  It’s a wallet friendly way to learn about winemaker styles.  If you like ones Bourgogne you will certainly like the rest of their wines.

I like the Falstaff score on this wine.  It reflects the critics true feelings about the wine without the prejudice of the ranking of appellation.  Many traditional critics will never score a Bourgogne above 90 points simply because it is a Bourgogne!  That is a mistake.  In this collection, you’ll find some wonderful wines to choose from.  If you have any questions, email us at sale@ginsbergchan.com.

Vintage Notes

2017
Generally a lighter style and lighter body for the reds, lots of pretty perfume and lower alcohol. Wines drinking well now.
The whites are superb as the stars aligned for Chardonnay in 2017. Racy energy with good balance of fruit and acidity.
2018

A warm vintage so the reds are more concentrated, this helped with some of the higher elevation Bourgogne. Riper fruit and more body. Can drink now but will improve in 2-3 years and age. The whites are more rich and opulent than 2017 and drinking perfectly now. Drink over the next 3 years.

2019
Another warm vintage but slightly more balance in the wines, both red and white, are drinking beautifully now. Pretty perfume and good concentration. Wines are delicious now and will age.
