Clos des Papes Chateauneuf du Pape 2019
"That sense of finesse rather than power is what Clos des Papes is all about."

G+C REVIEW
Elegance is unlikely to be the first word that comes to mind when drinking Chateauneuf du Pape. However, Vincent Avril’s Clos des Papes is one of the few exceptions that with every bottle you open, you cannot help but to utter this word. And although Burgundy and Rhone cannot be further apart in style, climate, and obviously variety, yet comparisons are frequently made when it comes to this domaine. With its significant history that made important contributions to the appellation’s rules, permitted varieties, and boundaries, to Vincent’s education in Burgundy that influenced him to pursue his elegant winemaking style, Clos des Papes is always a benchmark for quality in this region. There is concentration without extraction, ripeness of fruit without being jammy, and precisely balanced acidity that bring remarkable freshness in their wines. These are all hallmarks of what makes Clos des Papes so revered, along with the fact that they focus their efforts and vineyards into making just the one Chateauneuf du Pape. Most importantly, what makes their wines so appealing is that despite being pleasant to drink when young, they have the potential to age for decades if you can resist the temptatio to open a bottle straight away!
